Good to know

This house is an eclectic mix of traditional Southwestern adobe architecture decorated with art and artefacts from all over the world, especially Kenya - my home. Most people's mouths open in joy when they enter the huge living room, with its 40-foot wall of tall, sunny windows (passive solar), shepherd's fireplace, and solid viga wood beams. The vibe is global nomad, with art, textiles and artefacts from all over the world. It's colorful and eclectic, cozy and comfortable. The huge, sunny master bedroom at one end of the house has a queen bed with bedside tables and reading lamps. There is a view over distant hills and an exit to the 70-foot terrace and adjoining Green Belt. There is a large walk-in closet and an en suite bathroom. RAFIKI bedroom at the other end of the house also has an exit to the terrace, where there is a very cute sitting area if weather allows. It has a queen bed with bedside tables and reading lamps, and private modern bathroom with walk-in shower and a huge closet with hanging and shelf space, and kitchenette ( fridge, French press, electric kettle, plates, bowls, utensils for 2, convection oven). MARIDADI bedroom, accessed via the entrance hallway, has a full bed with reading lamp, shelves for clothing and hangers on the backs of two doors. It has a modern bathroom and a kitchenette with a mini-fridge and a small kitchen utility area (convection oven, electric kettle, French press, plates, mugs, wine glasses, utensils) for warm-up meals only. The kitchenettes in these bedrooms makes the house ideal not only for families, but also for groups or staff. Each bathroom is supplied with a first aid kit, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. All linens and towels are best quality and plentiful for all three bedrooms and bathrooms. The main galley kitchen adjoins the living room with an open counter/bar area. Sliding drawers and cabinets hold all the crockery, cutlery and gadgets you could want. The new, 5-ring gas stove and dishwasher are sleek and highly efficient. You have access to our large collection of spices and basics, like salt, pepper, and tea bags. It's a super efficient work space for one or two cooks. The laundry/utilities room leads from the kitchen and holds a large washer, dryer, cleaning products, hot water heater and state-of-the-art water filtration system. There is an ironing board, two irons, and a laundry basket. There is a back exit from this room. There is a back exit from this room to a paved path which leads around to the front door. The 70-foot terrace boasts a seating area (weather permitting) and gas BBQ, as well as a hot tub for two. Enjoy magnificent views to the distant hills at all times of the day, as well as sunrise and sunset and moonrise and moonset. At night, the skies are almost always filled with stars and the Milky Way floats right over your head. Our neighbors are invisible. You rule the kingdom! From the terrace, you step onto the path that leads you over the hill and onto one of the hiking paths of the Eldorado Green Belt where you (and your dog) can walk for miles. The large garage can be used ONLY to store sports equipment and luggage. There is no parking in the garage. A short walk along a path next to the garage leads you to the separate little "casita" - a one-room building that serves as a mighty nice office/studio/yoga room (no bathroom). It is carpeted, has a long work desk and its own high speed dedicated wifi. The casita has a dedicated parking space, complete with water and electric hookups for RVs - but there is no sewage dump. This home reflects our travels all over the world, our love of art, books and beautiful objects, and our respect for all things hand-made. We hope you love it as much as we do. #santafe #Southwesternarchitecture #Kenyaartefacts #artcollection #eclecticeldorado #skisantafe #familywintervacation #santafechristmas #kennymann FAQS: Q: Why isn’t it allowing me to book just Friday and Saturday and check-out on Sunday? Can I do that? A: Due to high demand for weekends, we have a 3 night minimum starting on Fridays. You would need to check-in on or before Friday, and check-out no earlier than Monday. Q: Are there dishes and cooking utensils? A: We provide plates, bowls, glasses, wine glasses, mugs, silverware, all utensils, pots, pans, cookie sheets, and a cutting board. The kitchen also has a microwave, bagel toaster, and professional blender. The sideboard in the living room holds place mats, cloth napkins and table cloths. Q: Is the neighborhood safe? A: Yep! We only invest in safe neighborhoods. Q: Do I need to bring towels, a hair dryer, or linens? A: Nope! We provide all of this! Q: Would we be able to check-in early? A: Unfortunately, due to the amount of time required to clean the property, we cannot accommodate an early check-in. If you are interested in checking in early, please book the night prior to your stay so that you can check-in as early as you like. We offer the same solution for checking out late: please book an additional night to check-out as late as needed. Q: I see that you have a guest limit. I’m already at the limit for those who are spending the night, but I also have some family visiting during the day but they won’t be spending the night. Would that be ok? A: The guest limit includes those who aren’t spending the night. As long as you don’t reach the max limit with those who are in the home at one time, it would be fine. Q: Do you have an age requirement? A: For booking, age 25 and older is required. Q: Is there room for additional vehicles? For example, street parking? A: We can only allow up to 5 vehicles. There are 4 parking spots on the main parking lot, and one on a separate red gravel area by the garage. If you have extra vehicles, you may park them at a local grocery store and then carpool back. Q: Is smoking allowed outside? A: We cannot allow smoking outside due to the ne...

Accessibility and Availability

Neighborhood

This is an excellent location for doing just about anything! If you are coming for a family vacation, the house is perfect, with room for family members and friends of all ages. If you're a remote worker and just want a change of scenery, this house has two high-speed wifi networks, one in the main house and one in the office casita. If you're coming to ski, Ski Santa Fe's renowned slopes are only an hour's drive away. It is very quiet and peaceful with neighbors quite near but not close enough to be a nuisance. The population is mostly retired but younger people are moving in. It is very civilized, full of creative people, but not a high life party place! For live music, movies, festivals, museums etc. you will have to drive into town. There is always plenty to do in Santa Fe! From our terrace, you can step right off into the Eldorado Green Belt, which provides miles of pleasant and easy walking along trails between the set- back houses. The air is amazingly fresh, and in Spring and Summer, the trails are spiced with the scent of wild herbs. You might see snakes, hares, cayotes, deer, maybe even a bobcat and plenty of raptor birds. In winter, there may be a light powdering of snow, or even a few inches, but it rarely lasts more than a couple of hours before it melts away. Your dogs will love it - just be sure to keep them leashed. Agora Shopping Center just 2.5 miles down the road has a decent supermarket, small restaurant, dispensary, rural post office and a pet store. Across the road is La Tienda, a complex of stores including a medical clinic, veterinarian, hardware store, salon, gym, and a bar/restaurant. The entire area of Eldorado was designed in the late 1970s for a community of between 6 - 7,000 people. It is one of the earliest passive solar communities in the US! Rules insisted that every property had at least an acre of land and some have far more. So while the community is semi-suburban in some ways, properties are far enough apart from one another to afford peace and quiet. Many residents are artists or artisans of some kind. It's an easy drive either north to Bandolier or Taos, or south to Las Vegas, Madrid, Silver City, White Sands and other landmark locations.
